A major crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as two major power blocs in the party are at daggers drawn over the soul of the ruling party.

The battle is between forces in the party loyal to former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The recent National Assembly leadership elections further polarised the party with the Atiku group having an upper hand.

Both Atiku and Tinubu are seeking to have a major control over the party structure so that party decisions would always favour them.

The two powerful blocs wanted their candidates to emerge principal officers of the National Assembly as it would automatically qualify their candidates to become members of the APC’s National Executive Committee, (NWC)which is the highest decision arm of the party.

Atiku, it was learnt, never supported the NWC’s decison to conduct a mock election within the APC’s senators and house of representatives members  before the actual elections on the floor of both houses. The mock election was the idea of Tinubu. Atiku then then moved to hijack the process by supporting the Saraki and Dogara camp in order to reduce the influence of Tinubu on the party.

This is because most of the current members of the APC’s National Working Committee are Tinubu’s loyalists. Reports say the Tinubu camp have not given up on the fight to control the National Assembly as they would likely spring a surprise in the days ahead.

A member of the party’s NWC, recently told  Punch that the brewing crisis is likely to divide the APC as the decisions of the NWC will be keenly contested by both camps.

The Atiku group is also said to be taking the battle to the ministerial nominees list as they have perfected plans to frustrate nominees from the Tinubu’s camp.

He said, “It is obvious that with what happened on Tuesday at the National Assembly, two (dominant) power blocks have emerged in the party.

“We hope to heal the wounds created by the contests, but there is mutual suspicion between the two groups.”

Reacting, Paul Ibe, Atiku’s spokesman, said, “Atiku did not orchestrate the emergence of the new leadership in the National Assembly and insinuating that amounts to nothing but political mischief, as he had refused to leave the party or work for the PDP even when the then President Jonathan was desperate for Atiku’s support.

“The visits of politicians and APC leaders including that of the Senate President are common political rituals in Atiku’s Asokoro residence. For the purposes of emphasis, the President has confidence in him and that explains why he had drafted him as an envoy of sorts in the race leading up to the emergence of a Nigerian President of African Development Bank.

“It is baseless and unfounded to suggest that Atiku conspired with the PDP or Saraki to ‘sabotage’ the APC. He would have congratulated Senator Ahmed Lawan (or any other leader) if he had won. It is simplistic to attribute conspiratorial agenda to an innocuous congratulatory visit.

“Atiku’s loyalty to his party is indisputable. He remains a loyal party member. He, in fact, threw his political assets behind the Buhari presidential campaign. Any suggestion that he conspired with Saraki or anybody is the figment of someone’s imagination”.

Attempts to get a reaction from Tinubu’s Spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Dare, were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the APC has finally accepted the outcome of the election that produced Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate president.

Buhari To Announce Ministers On Monday
Barring unforeseen circumstances, come Monday June 15, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari will announce his ministers.

An anonymous source, who spoke with Daily Independent said: ”the president is just waiting to receive the reports from the transition committee today (Friday) and thereafter review over the weekend. Barring any major contrary information in the transition committee’s report, Buhari should make this list public as early as Monday; that will shock everyone’’ he said.

Since Buhari assumed office on May 29, 2015, Nigerians have been anxious to know the array of ministers he will chose to actualise his change agenda.

Many permutations were done on several social networking platforms like facebook and twitter as to who will make the list.

There are speculations that President Buhari may reduce the number of ministers to be elected in an attempt to reduce the cost of governance.

The ruling All Progressives Congress has finally accepted the outcome of the election that produce Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate president.

The party’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, today, June 12, affirmed that the party had accepted Saraki as the President of the Senate, and they were ready to live with the reality.

The Edo-born Oyegun, who spoke to state house correspondents at the Defence House, Abuja, after a meeting of members of the 2015 transition committee with President Muhammadu Buhari, during a visit to the president to present their report. Oyegun is a member of the committee.

The APC had earlier vowed to sanction Saraki and his counterpart in the house of representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, after they emerged as leaders of both the senate and house of representatives respectively.

When asked by a Punch reporter if  Saraki’s position would be accepted by the party, Oyegun said, “Of course! He has been duly elected by his colleagues. We have a reality and we must live with it.”

He revealed that the party chieftains were already in consultations with Saraki, but they wouldn’t want to publicise it. Speaking further about the crisis that engulfed the party before the National Assembly elections.

The chairman said: “It is not the first or second time we have passed through this kind of scenario and we came out strong. This may not even be the last time, we come out every time stronger and more determined.”

He, however, subtly supported senators who are heading to court over Saraki’s victory saying they were within their rights.

People say they are going to court which is their right, but as a party, we are looking at everything and we are coming out strong,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the national publicity secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has come under attack by his kinsmen for stating that the party will follow due process in punishing Saraki and Dogara.
In a country where it is a norm for important dignitaries (the so-called VIPs) to move around in convoy, doing otherwise seem unusual or absurd. But President Mahmmadu Buhari has chosen to thread the unusual path.

Yesterday afternoon, the number one citizen was spotted leaving the National Mosque, Abuja, after Jumaat service without convoy or siren.

On May 18, Pastor Tunde Bakare, the general overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly had collapsed while delivering a lecture in Lagos state and was rushed to the Reddington Hospital.

In YouTube video by Sahara Reporters, Bakare disclosed details of his spiritual warfare after his collapse.

The pastor, who was speaking last Sunday on the stage of his Latter Rain Assembly church said the cause of his collapse was exhaustion, too much work and too much people’s pressure.

According to him, his exhaustion was partly caused by his travels between Lagos, Abuja, London, and Atlanta, US, adding that he had ignored the warning signs in the days leading to his collapse.

He told members of his church that he was discharged with a clean bill of health and is now on compulsory medication of two liters of water per day.

The cleric also talked about a premonition he had during a dream. He said he saw a humungous giant in Igbo attire, and it chased and mocked him in the dream.

He said: “One afternoon I had a dream. It was an unusual dream. I saw a ring on my little finger. I don’t wear two rings, I only wear one. I looked up and coming from my left side was an unusual giant I’d never seen before. It was unusually humongous and wore an Igbo attire. I didn’t know its tribe. It was a giant and it was coming towards me. All that I knew to do was raise the ring up. As soon as I raised it, it laughed and went on. I went to the crowd addressed the crowd n woke up.”

He however, could not explain what the giant could mean or why it wore Igbo attire.

After, Pastor Bakare’s collapse, his church had released an official press statement to assure his followers that he was hale and hearty.
